Maintenance Technician I

Washington College is seeking qualified applicants for the Maintenance Technician I position.
Responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician I include assisting in the operation of all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, and the maintenance, minor repair, and upkeep of plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, and the appliances in all of the College's buildings and grounds.
Essential Functions:
Perform minor repairs and/or replace plumbing fixtures, valves, and other devices as required.
Assist in maintaining all pressure piping systems.
Maintain all sanitary and storm drains in a free running manner using plunger, snake, vacuum, etc.
Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances as required.
Have a general working knowledge of all campus electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
Perform minor inspection duties where directed.
Maintain all mechanical rooms in safe, clean, operating condition.
Report unsafe conditions of buildings or equipment damage to supervisor.
Perform work orders as assigned.
Perform other duties when assigned.
Education and
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required Four (4) years experience as a general or trained mechanic, or graduate from a recognized trade school with two (2) years experience.
Must possess a grade 1 stationary engineer license Perform operations as required by job order and/or maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation and operations in the HVAC, vehicle, plumbing, and electrical trades.
Must have general operating knowledge of mechanical equipment, boilers, and air conditioner units.
Must be capable of making minor adjustments to such equipment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to operate College vehicles and maintain a driving record acceptable to the College's insurance carrier.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work involves moving or lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment, materials, and tools.
Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movement within confined areas including equipment, crawl spaces, and attics.
Must be willing and able to work in all buildings or outdoors in all seasons.
Operate power tools and equipment.
Near visual acuity for reading instructions, manuals, specifications, electrical prints, and boiler operation and testing.
May be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
Once trained, required to participate in on-call rotation and must be available to come to campus for emergency related calls.
On-call rotation entails coverage for seven straight days approximately every six weeks.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
